About Us

Back in 2015 — the same year MyUmbrella LGBT+ was founded as a volunteer-led project of Reading Pride — we held our very first Trans Day of Remembrance vigil. It was a small, heartfelt gathering, created to honour the lives lost to trans, non-binary, and gender-non-conforming hate.

Since then, that moment of reflection has grown into something much bigger. In 2022, we began working closely with Newbury Pride, building a shared space for remembrance that brought our communities in Reading and West Berkshire together.

This year marks the next step in that journey. The vigil is moving beyond Reading Pride and taking on a new name — Trans Day of Remembrance – Berkshire. It’s a change that reflects how far we’ve come, and how much we want to keep reaching out — to other Prides, to new communities, and to everyone across Berkshire who shares our values of respect, visibility, and inclusion.

We’d like to say a special thank you to TransKind by Beaumont for stepping in to help finance this years event.

Together, they remind us what this day is really about — standing together in remembrance, love, and hope for a safer, more understanding world.
